Here's
a 1974 BMW 3.0CS that was stolen and then recovered by the insurance
company. This is an insurance claim settlement vehicle. VIN
#4320314
This is a very
clean 3.OCS, in the course of being stolen it has sustained damage to
the top of the right rear fender in the form of the 3 dents (as
depicted in the photos). The left rear wheel arch has been
dented (as depicted in the photos) and the rear windshield and trunk
lid have been scratched. The thieves stole the carbs/air
filters, intake manifold, radiator and altenator.
The mileage is
showing 29,000, we are unable to verify if this is 129,000. It
would appear accurate from the appearance of the interior and
with the intake manifold missing you are able to view inside the
cylinder valve ports and see that they are exceptionally clean and
void of excessive carbon deposits which would indicate relatively low
miles or else the engine has been overhauled at some point.
The walnut burl
wood is in very nice condition, the only significant fault with the
interior is the cloth inserts in the driver's seat has degraded and
worn. The rear seats, passenger seats and door and side
panels look brand new. The headliner is in good condition with
just some slight stains, however the headliner insert in the sunroof
panel has been removed.
This is a very
high optioned car, it's equipped with a large capacity trunk mounted
A/C system that was far superior to the woefully underpowered factory
units. Factory alloy wheels with deep treaded Michelin tires and
Bilstein gas shocks. Dual exterior door mirrors. Front and rear
windows are electric, has factory sunroof and the rare automatic
transmission option. Those familiar with the 3.0CS know
that BMW built these vehicles so that those cars equipped with
automatic transmissions could be readily converted and fitted with
manual transmissions if so desired.
While not a
perfect car this is however an above average example. It is
certainly a vehicle deserving of your attention if you wish to own an
ever-appreciating European classic. The body is relatively
straight except for the described damage that occurred when it was
stolen and as with ALL 3.0CS's there are rust areas to be found
if you look hard enough. It appears to have been repainted in
the past 2 to 3 years. There is degradation to the paint that is
not fully depicted in the photos. It will require a new
paint job to be a fully dynamic car.
The chrome and
brightwork are in very nice condition, the bumpers are clean and
straight with no pitting or scratches. The ornate interior
chrome is in exceptional condition. The dash is in very nice
condition, there are no cracks, perforations or damage. In the
center on top of the dash in the center are velcro tabs attached with
adhesive tape for what appears to be for a radar detector.
The car appears
to be mostly original without excessive alterations or modifications
being performed down through the years. The only alterations we
have noted consist of the addition of a high-efficiency trunk mount
A/C system, an aftermarket exhaust and replacement cassette stereo.
Note that the cassette radio was replaced within the confines of the
original radio dimensions. There has been no alteration or
modification of the radio console or any of the areas containing the
speakers.
